The pharmacological landscape constantly evolves, making it challenging for clinicians to stay current with the latest developments. For those working with public safety personnel, it is critical to understand the unique mental health needs of this population, including the cultural and organizational factors that influence treatment outcomes. Clinicians need practical strategies for collaborating with culturally competent psychiatric providers to ensure a holistic, informed approach to care—one that best supports the mental health and well-being of those who serve and protect our communities. Join this Lexipol webinar with Dr. Jaime Brower and Karen Laber, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. With over two decades of experience as an EMT-B, ER/ICU nurse, and flight nurse, Karen brings extensive expertise in working with public safety personnel to her practice. Together, they will explore recent advancements in medication, including emerging therapies for PTSD, ADHD, and sleep disorders, and their unique challenges in high-stress environments. This session will also cover integrative approaches, such as the gut-brain axis and the potential of psychedelics, examining their mechanisms of action and therapeutic implications for public safety personnel.

Course Objectives

  • Analyze recent pharmacotherapy advancements for mental health disorders specific to public safety personnel, including the mechanisms and therapeutic implications of medications like Auvelity, Prazosin, and ketamine.
