This course provides an introduction to the breadth of cultural competency
topics and functional domains involved in working effectively with
the emergency responder and public safety population.
Our emergency responders make up an ever-growing group of law
enforcement personnel, firefighters, dispatchers, emergency medical
professionals, corrections/detentions, victim advocates, and others. This
group is faced with unique challenges on a daily basis that impact both
their own and their family’s mental health.
This overview course provides an introduction to the breadth of cultural
competency topics and functional domains involved in working effectively
with the emergency responder and public safety population.

Course Objectives

Discover basic concepts about pain and how it is experienced in our bodies.

Identify treatment options for pain management and challenges various responder groups face with treatment.

Discuss tips and strategies to effectively treat pain and alternative strategies to opioid use.
Meet Your Instructors:
Tiffany Lynch, Psy.D.
Dr. Lynch received a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver, Graduate School of Professional Psychology. She has specialty training in forensic assessment, military psychology, trauma intervention, and chronic pain management. She has worked with numerous forensic and military/veteran specific systems, including the Adams County Detention Facility, Fort Carson Evans Army Hospital, and the Colorado Springs V.A. Medical Center. As the daughter of a law enforcement officer and a police spouse, Dr. Lynch has a personal understanding of the unique factors that first responders experience. She has special interest in trauma/PTSD, moral injury, chronic pain management, couples counseling, wellness, and resiliency.
