Though every agency’s investigative process is different, this course presents a generalized overview of the internal affairs or investigatory process that your loved one may be enduring.  This is not only a long and stressful process, but family members should be aware that not all support is good support.  Learn how to effectively care for, help, and encourage your responder through this process in a healthy manner.

Meet Your Instructors:

Emily Hitchings

Now the Director of Agency Partnerships and Programming at NERPSC, Emily was a police officer for nearly 17 years. As the employee support officer, she led their peer support team and managed wellness programs for her department. Emily is recognized state-wide for her work and has been pivotal in helping build wellness programs for departments of all sizes across the country. Emily is a certified financial master coach and a responder curriculum instructor for the Center for Relationship Education (CRE). This curriculum teaches responders effective communication skills that can benefit their personal and professional relationships. She is also currently working on a MA in counseling, to assist emergency responders through therapy, crisis response, and trauma treatment.

Dr. Tiffany Lynch, Psy.D.

Dr. Lynch received a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver, Graduate School of Professional Psychology. She has specialty training in forensic assessment, military psychology, trauma intervention, and chronic pain management. She has worked with numerous forensic and military/veteran specific systems, including the Adams County Detention Facility, Fort Carson Evans Army Hospital, and the Colorado Springs V.A. Medical Center. As the daughter of a law enforcement officer and a police spouse, Dr. Lynch has a personal understanding of the unique factors that first responders experience. She has special interest in trauma/PTSD, moral injury, chronic pain management, couples counseling, wellness, and resiliency.
